John’s immediate family consists of his parents Don and Rita (Lincoln “Go Big Red!” Nebraska), his older sister Emily with her husband Gary and their two son’s (the ringbearers) Wyatt and Griffin (Turlock, California) and his two brothers Derek (Boulder, Colorado) and Drew (Sunnyvale, California). Mom and Dad grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. All the kids grew up in Philadelphia and everyone moved to Cupertino, California in 1982. Don and Rita had their boxes packed for Lincoln, Nebraska when the earthquake struck in 1989. Derek was picking John up from UC Santa Cruz (yes, the banana slugs!) when the earthquake hit. John went to Monta Vista High School where he met Johan Rindegard (John’s best man) and several other close friends who will be at the wedding. He later received a bachelors degree in Computer Science from UCSC and started working at Sun Microsystems as a Systems Administrator (aka, computer geek). John was very active in the Apres Ski and Activities Club for several years which resulted in almost as many embarrassing stories as the high school years. Recently John has worked for a variety of dot-com companies as a Senior Unix Systems Administrator.
Sarah’s immediate family consists of her parents, John and Mary (Coronado, California), her brother Eric and his wife Margo and their two daughters Ynez and Vivienne (the flower girl) who live in San Diego, California. Sarah and Eric grew up in Coronado in the house that John and Mary still live in today. Sarah went to school at Amherst College in Massachusetts where she studied Neuroscience (yes, she has done brain surgery....on mice). After graduating, she did a short stint as a basic researcher at the New England Medical Center in Boston. She then attended graduate school at the University of Massachusetts where she received a masters in education. Her first full time teaching assignment was in Palm Springs, California (also known as “the desert”). Sarah met Karyn Tibbs (her maid of honor) playing flag football with several other teachers and their families in the desert. Sarah is now teaching high school physics at Leadership High School in San Francisco. She met Sara Scott (a bridesmaid) through one of her original San Francisco roommates (David Rodnitzky). Sarah volunteers at Valley Presbyterian Church helping with the senior high youth group.
